Praeses: Madieke van Hintum

UUUUSAC! Hi! My name is Madieke and I am this year’s president. Before I joined this association three years ago, I didn’t climb much and had never really been to the mountains, but you guys completely won me over! I am now working hard to recover from my injuries so that I can start climbing again and hopefully take the C1 course this summer.

In the meantime, I’m really looking forward to organizing all kinds of fun things for you and, together with my board, keeping the association running for another year!

Outside of USAC, I’m always busy with all sorts of things, such as knitting and studying (in that order), but luckily I can do that in the mountains too, so you’ll probably see me doing that during Christmas week and at the alpine camp.

If you are curious about what I am making, or just have a useful board question for me, feel free to talk to me or contact me.

Vice-Praeses: Bram Bongaerts

Hello USAC! When I joined this association, I never could have imagined how much fun USAC would be, and then suddenly I was asked to join the board! So, for the 1997 board year, I am the Vice-President of USAC!

This year, I will focus on the student side of USAC by organizing fun get-togethers and interesting lectures. I will also oversee committees and, above all, have a lot of fun with you! Outside of USAC, I work as a bartender and bouldering instructor, or you can find me enjoying a beer at many different venues. Oh, and sometimes I study creative business when it suits me.

If you have any great ideas for committees/get-togethers/lectures, or just a random question or want to have a chat, you can always text or email me!

Ab Actis: Justine Dijkman

My name is Justine, I am this year’s secretary, and I am very excited about it. I started climbing last year and was immediately in awe of the sport and the club with its lovely people and open atmosphere. To my own surprise, I am joining the board this year! I hope to delight you with a biweekly newsletter full of stories and new activities. I also have many other hobbies, which have slowed down a bit, but not come to a complete standstill! I love playing the piano, drawing, and reading, and I also go running every now and then. Finally, I am busy with my bachelor’s degree in biology. Finally, I would like to emphasize that all ideas and suggestions regarding the association are very welcome, and if you have something interesting for the newsletter, please send it to me and I will include it!

Fiscus: Pepijn Tils

My name is Pepijn, and this year I have the privilege of serving as treasurer on our wonderful board. That means I am responsible for everything related to the association’s finances, from budgets to expense claims, and of course ensuring that our adventures run smoothly from a financial perspective. My hobbies are bouldering and climbing (currently often on Kalymnos). I am currently doing a master’s degree in nanomaterials, a follow-up master’s degree in Chemistry. This means that this year we form a real chemistry trio within the board. Do you have big plans (no van), a nice idea, or just need some mental (or financial) support? Feel free to send me a message or email me at fiscus@usac.alpenclub.nl. I’m happy to help!

HSHG: Noa de Been

Hello USAC! This year, I will be your HSHG. I have been climbing for a while now, starting with youth training at Neoliet when I was 15. I really enjoy climbing and hiking in the mountains. I am also studying sustainable and circular chemistry and enjoy science communication. I am really looking forward to a year full of USAC adventures. Of course, I will also make sure that everyone can enjoy climbing outdoors this year. If you have any questions or ideas on how to improve this, please email me at HSHG@usac.alpenclub.nl or send me a message.

MatCom: Bo Hekkert

Hey USAC! I’m Bo, and I’m your Equipment Commissioner this year. I have been going to the mountains my whole life, where I mainly went hiking with my parents. Since joining USAC three years ago, I have also started climbing more. I love adventure in the mountains and enjoy ski touring, alpine climbing, and multi-pitch climbing. This year, I think it would be really cool to do the ice climbing course and/or T3. You will see me at the hall from time to time this year, and if you are interested in going on exciting trips, I am always up for it! This year, I will be taking care of the USAC equipment. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about renting equipment!

OpCom: Arthur ten Berge

Hi dear members, I am Arthur, this year’s Training Commissioner. I will be focusing on the lovely framework of this association, as well as route building, the new competition team, and more! I am now in my second year as a USAC member and from the very first second here, I felt completely at home! I first started bouldering almost three years ago and immediately fell in love with climbing. Shortly after, I took a top rope course, but it wasn’t until I joined USAC that I really started rope climbing a lot. I enjoy participating in competitions and want to climb even harder this year, as well as get my OV-MP, build more routes at Kalymnos, become a staff member myself, and fully commit to this association as a board member! If you would like to contact me, you can do so via opcom@usac.alpenclub.nl or via WhatsApp.

Mascot: Leo the Sloth

Hi, I’m Leo the Sloth and I am the proud mascot of USAC. As a sloth, I may not be the fastest or most energetic, but I’m certainly one of the most laid-back and cool mascots you’ll ever meet. My presence at USAC brings a touch of relaxation and adventure into the lives of the students who are part of this great climbing club.

Climbing is an activity that revolves around concentration, strength, and perseverance. As sloth represent

I the art of being patient and the need to make progress step by step. I bring a unique balance to the lives of the USAC people. As they work to climb higher and further, I remind them that sometimes just relaxing and enjoying the moment is just as important.

So, dear USAC members, come and socialize with me. I am always ready to remind you of the importance of relaxation and patience in a hectic world. Together with my fellow climbers at USAC, we will continue to strive for new heights, both on the walls and in life itself. Climb them and don’t forget to relax every now and then, just like me!

Chill greetings from Leo!
