Introductions!

Praeses: Esther Gijsbers

UUUUSAC! I am Esther and I have the privilege of being your praeses this year. I have been a member of this amazing association for 3 years but I was brought up with a love for the mountains. Since I was a toddler I carry my backpack with sleeping bag and water bottle from hut to hut and chase down the mountains on two planks. Thanks to the USAC i got to know the “real stuff”! The last years I did C1 and T1 and I hope to do C2 this summer. You might see me at the climbing hall less often than my fellow board members but if you need a partner for mountaineering or skiing, you can always send me a message 🙂 Besides that I like to cycle, read books, and attend the borrels! I really look forward to this year and hope to see lots of you at activities.

Vice-Praeses: Olivier Heemskerk

Yoo people, my name is Olivier and I am your super cozy Vice-Praeses this year. I’ve been a member of this great association for four years and thought it was just about time to join the board. I love climbing, bouldering, playing guitar, skiing and snowboarding immensely. My passion for mountains also started with skiing and snowboarding. I wanted to pass this on to others, which is why I became a ski and snowboard instructor five years ago. I actually only really started climbing and bouldering when I became a member at USAC and luckily this turned out to be the sport for me: a wonderful combination of strength, precision and thinking. This year, one of the things I get to do is organise some incredibly fun get-togethers. I hope to meet you there with a beer in your hand!

Ab Actis: Max Roebeling

Why hello:). I’m Max and apparently that’s my greeting. When I was little, I used to often go with my parents into the mountains. Then they were always like: ‘look how beautiful!’ I always found it a bit exciting to be honest those high mountains. Before I REALLY loved mountains and discovered climbing, I followed other sports and passions. In part, I still have them. For instance, I am still a huge fan of diving, I even got my Divemaster for this. This makes me a real dive guide. Before I joined USAC, I rowed for several years. I don’t do that very often any more, because climbing is really cool. Super fun solving those vertical puzzles, with increasingly difficult holds. I am really looking forward to this year and will have to answer many of your e-mails. And, of course, I get to review and share your promo. Send it all to me, both by mail: ab-actis@usac.alpenclub.nl , as well as by Whats-App. It promises to be a great year!

Fiscus: Bjorn Fidder

Hey dear USAC, I’m Bjorn. I like to spend my money on climbing, bouldering, alpineering, skiing and more. I am happy to be on duty for you this year so you can also enjoy spending your money on this. Besides climbing, I also love making music, for instance, I sing and play piano in the USAC band, and have been playing in other bands for some time. I look forward to a year of sharing fun adventures with you and distributing USAC money among you. If you have any questions about this, or want to declare money, please feel free to send an email to fiscus@usac.alpenclub.nl :).

HSHG: Constantijn

Hello rope tigers,I’m Constantijn, and I’m the HSHG this year. That means that,

together with Ward, I’ll be organizing the climbing weekends this year. I’ve been a member for one year now and have already enjoyed over 49 fantastic climbing days with USAC. Among these, the trad course and the maintenance weekends share the top spot as the best weekends.

I started climbing when I was 9 years old. After taking it easy for many years, I ventured outdoors five years ago. Since then, my life has been going uphill—often towards Belgium! I’m in my element when I’m crack climbing. This year, I finally want to do my C1 so I can safely venture into the snow.

I hope you’ll find your place in our beautiful world with these steep and exciting mountains.

MatCom: Lieuwe Huisman

Hello dear USAC’er! My name is Lieuwe and I am a fairly young mountaineering enthusiast. I only came into contact with it during my first year at USAC. Since then, I have been climbing regularly and, because I like a physical challenge every now and then, I am excited about mountaineering! I also like to keep myself busy with – who would have thought – equipment and technique! I am going to make something beautiful out of it this year and will enjoy contributing something to this beautiful association. I am responsible for equipment rental and equipment maintenance. If you have a good idea, would like to see something improved or would like to hire equipment, you can contact me via e-mail: matcom@usac.alpenclub.nl.

OpCom: Ward van der Schoot

Hi finest USACcers,

I am your Training Commissioner this year: a new role, in which I will be nicely involved in training members to become cadres, route builders and better climbers. In 2 years, I have fallen hugely in love with climbing, where my preference is mostly for adventure, such as multipitching, trad and alpine climbing. To share this love with as many other climbers as possible, I became a multipitch instructor this summer. I have only been a member for a year, but in that short time I have really found my niche at USAC. This is mainly thanks to the USAC members: the nicest, sweetest, most beautiful and sociable people in the Netherlands. That is why I enjoy being on several committees and you will often find me in the hall, at drinks or other activities. I am very much looking forward to working for our beautiful association in the coming year, and having lots of adventures with all of you <3.

PS: hit me up if you know or see any fun city boulders (bonus points if it’s a crack)!

Mascot: Leo the Sloth

Hi, I’m Leo the Sloth and I am the proud mascot of USAC. As a sloth, I may not be the fastest or most energetic, but I’m certainly one of the most laid-back and cool mascots you’ll ever meet. My presence at USAC brings a touch of relaxation and adventure into the lives of the students who are part of this great climbing club.

Climbing is an activity that revolves around concentration, strength, and perseverance. As sloth represent

I the art of being patient and the need to make progress step by step. I bring a unique balance to the lives of the USAC people. As they work to climb higher and further, I remind them that sometimes just relaxing and enjoying the moment is just as important.

So, dear USAC members, come and socialize with me. I am always ready to remind you of the importance of relaxation and patience in a hectic world. Together with my fellow climbers at USAC, we will continue to strive for new heights, both on the walls and in life itself. Climb them and don’t forget to relax every now and then, just like me!

Chill greetings from Leo!
