Introductions!
Praeses: Esther Gijsbers
Dear USAC’ers, I remember well when I first came to the mountains as a 12-year-old with my parents. Well, of course I thought that was mega epic! Now, 11 years later, I get to call myself Praeses of the USAC and I’m going to try and make little Odet proud by braving as many mountains as possible! I am very happy to be part of the 95th Board. The USAC has given me, and so many other people, tremendous opportunities to learn all kinds of things. In addition, I have met so many great people in this little club! I hope to contribute to the club this year along with the rest of my board. You will see me often at the hall, at parties and at as many other activities as possible. Please find me if you have any questions or if you just want to chat 🙂
When I am not climbing you will often find me in the kitchen, behind a musical instrument or with my nose in the books (actually I only read fantasy). I’m really looking forward to a year of adventures with all of you!

Dear mountain goat, Long ago in a village, below sea level, far from here I was born. There were no mountains in the wide surroundings. But luckily one day my parents decided to take us to the breathtaking Alps, where my love for mountains awoke. And so we moved to Nijmegen, a city that was admittedly 40 meters above sea level. There I climbed for several years in climbing hall GRIP. When I finally settled in Utrecht, I joined the USAC after the long lockdown periods. Here I met many other passionate mountain goats. Especially during my first alpine camping trip, where I had the pleasure of hiking with them through enchanting Aosta the day after the KB announcement, I realized how inspired I was by their enthusiasm for their year. And now, with a deep pride in my heart, I can announce that I will be joining the board myself! I have been elected as the new Ab Actis! This means that I will be responsible for writing all the newsletters, and although that still gives me a twinge of nerves now, I know that in a year’s time I will look back on this with complete satisfaction. In addition, I am ready to answer all your emails full of questions. So don’t hesitate and feel free to send me a message at ab-actis@usac.alpenclub.nl . This year promises to be great! You will see me often in the hall and at all kinds of activities. And let’s not forget that this is a special anniversary year. So I will dance extra hard at the DIES!
Fiscus: Bjorn Fidder
Dear USACer, I am Thijs. I enjoy climbing with nice people and challenging myself on beautiful routes, preferably on real rock. Besides climbing I really like skiing, cooking and reading. I love being outside in nature with beautiful mountain views. I am very happy to say that this year I am the fiscal officer. I will be handling all the money matters of the association. If you have any questions about this, feel free to email fiscus@usac.alpenclub.nl I look forward to climbing with you and enjoying any adventures we may have together during our time with the USAC.

Hello rope tigers,I’m Constantijn, and I’m the HSHG this year. That means that, together with Ward, I’ll be organizing the climbing weekends this year. I’ve been a member for one year now and have already enjoyed over 49 fantastic climbing days with USAC. Among these, the trad course and the maintenance weekends share the top spot as the best weekends.
I started climbing when I was 9 years old. After taking it easy for many years, I ventured outdoors five years ago. Since then, my life has been going uphill—often towards Belgium! I’m in my element when I’m crack climbing. This year, I finally want to do my C1 so I can safely venture into the snow.
I hope you’ll find your place in our beautiful world with these steep and exciting mountains.

dear toprope-toppers, seasoned alpinists and everyone in between, A year and a half ago I joined USAC without having even heard of the terms “double eight-knot,” “multipitch,” or even “block. A true freshman, I was taken on an intro weekend and since then mountaineering has been an integral part of my life. Now in possession of my OV-MP certificate, I would like to help others get to know this fantastic sport (better). This is what I will do next year as equipment commissioner. This means that I will be responsible for the loan and maintenance of all USAC equipment. Hopefully this will allow me to contribute to a lot of USAC and non-USAC related mountain adventures. see you soon in the alps or at the climbing hall!

Mascot: Leo the Sloth
Hi, I’m Leo the Sloth and I am the proud mascot of USAC. As a sloth, I may not be the fastest or most energetic, but I’m certainly one of the most laid-back and cool mascots you’ll ever meet. My presence at USAC brings a touch of relaxation and adventure into the lives of the students who are part of this great climbing club.
Climbing is an activity that revolves around concentration, strength, and perseverance. As sloth represent
I the art of being patient and the need to make progress step by step. I bring a unique balance to the lives of the USAC people. As they work to climb higher and further, I remind them that sometimes just relaxing and enjoying the moment is just as important.
So, dear USAC members, come and socialize with me. I am always ready to remind you of the importance of relaxation and patience in a hectic world. Together with my fellow climbers at USAC, we will continue to strive for new heights, both on the walls and in life itself. Climb them and don’t forget to relax every now and then, just like me!
Chill greetings from Leo!
