The USAC can of course also be found in the alps in winter, for example during the Combi Week. This week is all about ski touring and ice climbing! Accompanied by a guide, wonderful tours are made through winter wonderland. A cozy chalet is rented as a place to stay, where the evening is deliciously cooked and the day is discussed over a nice glass of wine or tea.
The ice climbing has turned out to be quite difficult in recent years, simply because we often had to deal with warm periods and bad ice. As a committee this year (2023) we did our best to also find a location where ice climbing is possible, and with the Pitztal we succeeded! In recent years there are a number of USAC’ers who have gained ice climbing experience and want to expand this during the combo week, there will also be room for that this year! Even if you have never ice climbed before you can possibly get a taste of ice climbing for a day this year under the guidance of the guide. In addition, the Pitztal is an ideal location for easy and challenging ski tours, which may include ski tours over glaciers. Finally, the Pitztal also has a few ski areas with very good freeride possibilities. So something for everyone!
To join this week it is not necessarily necessary to have made ski tours before. However, it is necessary that you can ski a red slope easily and in a controlled way. A good skiing technique will make you enjoy the week and pick up much more. If you are uncertain about your skiing technique you can always send us an email, and above all practice well in advance!
The cost of the week is normally around €500 euros. This is excluding any equipment rental, but including transport and food.
If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to combiweek@usac.alpenclub.
Ps. an impression of the atmosphere cannot be missing here of course, see the pictures below 🙂
